I LOVE ROMANIA!!
I am probably going to say this every week but oh my goodness the weeks fly by!
On Monday we went to an escape room for p-day. It was all fun and games til we got into the room to start and they took chains, connected to the ground, and locked them around our ankles! Haha we were like. . .what did we get ourselves into. . haha! It ended up being really fun, the story for this escape room was that we were captured by pirates and we had to solve all these puzzles to get out of the chains, decode the map, and then drive the ship to the treasure. There were three different rooms that we had to go through and it ended up taking us about 90 minutes. . haha it was lots of fun though!!
The rest of our week was full of lessons!! We have stayed super busy! The nice thing is we literally are getting people handed to us! Haha. We have yet to do any contacting just on the street. We also have several individuals we are teaching English to! I love teaching English! We also had a service project this week where we talked with a group of High-school kids who are learning English, for 2 hours we talked to them in English just about random things, it was super fun.
Oh my goodness, I almost forgot that Thanksgiving was this week!! I made pumpkin pie again!! And it ended up being even more challenging than the last time I was in Romania. . haha! They don't have shortening here so instead I used butter for the crust. Also, my apartment didn't have any measuring cups or measuring spoons so I had to just measure everything by hand/eye. And for the pumpkin filling. . .the only pumpkin I could find was the kind with the white skin on the outside, and then when I went to puree the pumpkin my blender did not work very well. They also did not have evaporated milk so I just had to try and boil the milk for a while, and they only had whole cloves so I tried to crush them by blending them in the blender, haha! On top of all that the pie tins I bought did not fit in the toaster over we have so we had to carry the pie filling in a bowl and the dough all the way to the church to bake them! That ended up being a great back workout because I had to try and hold the bowl as still as I could so the filling wouldn't slosh out. . haha. To my surprise the pie still turned out SO GOOD! Especially the next morning for breakfast! And then on Friday night I brought the second pie to a games night and everyone there really enjoyed it too! That made me happy :)
ALSO!! We got a missionary senior couple in our city now! Super exciting! And as we were talking to them Friday night they asked us if we needed them to drive us anywhere!! That was such a miracle and answer to our prayers! The two girls that we are teaching right now live about two hours away. Last week we thought we had found a way to visit them so we told them we were going to visit and they were so excited! They told us that they just had a dream that we were going to visit them! It was so sad when we looked again and saw the only way to make it to them would be by car. We had been praying that we could find a way to make it to visit them when we heard that a senior couple would be coming to Cluj. We were hoping they would want to drive the 2 hours to help us so the fact that we didn't even have to bring it up was such a miracle for us!! We are hoping to make that trip to them in the next week!
Today we went on some pretty fun adventures!! One of the girls we taught a lesson to once asked if we wanted to go to her home town and sight see a little bit! Of course we were all for it so we got on a train at 7:45 this morning to her hometown an hour away. When we got there we walked to her house and her family fed us! We then piled into two cars and drove to a waterfall and big lake that is covering an old sunken city! It was so nice to be outside in the mountains! I was in heaven! The smell of forest, clean crisp air, and little snowflakes at the end of our trip were just what I needed today! Also, the train ride back to Cluj was so pretty! It is fun to see the country side and all the small towns and villages in Romania! I can't wait to explore more!
Love you all and hope you have a great week, sending hugs and lots of love to you all :)

ReplyDeleteBen and I enjoyed reading about your adventures in making a pumpkin pie. Good job on you problem solving skills. You are awesome!! The miracle of you being able to keep your commitment to your investigators was very touching. The lesson of how important each person is to God is so evident in your experiences. Your two sisters were remembered, you and your companion was aided, and I am sure the couple missionaries who drove you there enjoyed the experience as well.
ReplyDeleteWe loved being able to see some of the beautiful places you are being able to visit. We love reading about you mission. We love you and look forward to your next post.
